I’M FOR IT
I believe whoever created a human body (whether you think God or science) they created women’s boobies to produce milk or least for some women. And because they were created for this who am I to argue with this. You can read countless articles and studies telling you how much healthier it is for a baby to drink breast milk than formula. Now don’t misunderstand
I DO NOT JUDGE.
I chose to breast feed that does not mean that I think breast feeding is the one and only way. I know many women who chose not to or can’t. That is their/your business. Everybody has a right to their own choices.
Me, I chose to breast feed my kids…sort of. With my oldest I did it for 6 months. It was so hard to get him use to it at the beginning. We tried so many different positions and finally the only one that worked was with me lying down and him lying down next to me and then he would eat. This meant that when we were in public I could never do it. I wasn’t about to lie down in the middle of the supermarket, library or park to feed my kid. Those times he got pumped breast milk in a bottle. My youngest just never caught on. I tried for 3 weeks EVERYDAY to get him to latch on but it just never worked. After about a month I just gave up and gave him breast milk for some time and then formula for the rest. I felt so guilty. I really wanted to breast feed him. For his health and for economical reasons. Formulas are very expensive.
So how do I feel about the whole breast feeding business in public??
I really have mixed emotions.
On the one hand I condone it. I support it. Like I said at the beginning of this post someone gave us boobies filled with milk so that someone wanted us to give this milk to our babies. It is our right as mothers to feed our kids. Babies don’t know when its “appropriate” to eat and when its not. When they’re hungry they want food. As mothers we feel we must make ourselves available and give them this food.
On the other hand I believe in the saying There’s a Right Time and a Right Place for Everything” So what does that mean? It means feeding your baby when he/she is hungry but at the same time maybe being just a bit considerate of others. I know it’s a natural thing for a mother to breast feed her baby but some people are just uncomfortable watching this. Maybe just maybe we don’t have to whip out our boobies at every family function, every time we go to the park, library, train, airplane, etc. Just maybe we can be considerate of other people’s discomfort and give our baby a bottle. Don’t worry nothing bad is going to happen to your baby if you give him/her a bottle filled with breast milk every once in a while. I know some will say that if a person feels uncomfortable they should leave and I agree with that if they are in your house but out in public we need to think of others and not just what we want.
This is just my opinion. I don’t mean to offend anyone or for that matter insinuate that my opinion is right and everyone else is wrong. NOT AT ALL.
This is just my opinion. PERIOD
